A Leader In Asphalt Paving
Backed by Over 80 Years of Industry Expertise
Ruston Paving has provided commercial and industrial asphalt paving services in Syracuse and Central New York for more than 80 years. From parking lots and private roadways to industrial facilities and recreational surfaces, our Syracuse Division handles new pavement construction, repairs, resurfacing, reclamation, grading, drainage, and other site needs.
Every paving project starts with the conditions already on the property. Our team looks at the pavement, base, drainage, traffic, and how the site is used before recommending an approach. That may mean repairing an existing surface, milling and resurfacing it, or rebuilding the pavement from the base up.
Our Syracuse crews perform the work with support from experienced project managers and Ruston Paving’s broader New York team.
About the Syracuse Division serving Central New York
As the original Ruston Paving location founded in 1943, our Syracuse Division continues to set the standard of the asphalt paving services for the rest of the company. It is here where the blueprint was drafted by founder Mike Ruston to form a company known for providing quality at a competitive price. Mike’s core values continue to guide the company’s vision and remain the basis for our corporate mission. From this central location, the Syracuse Division can provide asphalt paving services in Central NY, and support for our other divisions within the state. In 1987, Ruston Paving moved into its current location on Thompson Road from the original site in Jamesville.
For over 80 years, Ruston Paving has proudly served the Syracuse area with a rich history of excellence. Our commitment to quality and personalized service has made us a trusted name in the industry. We specialize in a comprehensive range of asphalt services, catering to both new construction projects and asphalt pavement repairs, specifically tailored for commercial and industrial applications.
Why Clients Choose Ruston Paving
Commercial Paving Built for Central New York Conditions
Commercial pavement in Syracuse has to deal with more than everyday traffic. Central New York winters bring repeated freezing and thawing, snow removal, moisture, and temperature swings that can expose weaknesses in pavement and the base beneath it. That makes proper drainage, grading, base preparation, and asphalt installation especially important for parking lots, private roadways, industrial facilities, and other high-use properties.
Ruston Paving’s Syracuse Division approaches each project based on the condition of the existing pavement and what the property needs to support. A site with surface wear may be a candidate for asphalt milling and resurfacing, while pavement with deeper structural problems may require excavation, soil stabilization, or full-depth reclamation before new asphalt is placed.
Drainage also plays a big role in how well pavement holds up over time. If water sits on the surface or collects in low areas, it can find its way into cracks and cause more damage when temperatures drop. Our team looks at the grading, drainage, pavement condition, and base before recommending the right repair or paving approach.
Specialized Paving Services in Syracuse
Some paving projects need more than resurfacing or a new layer of asphalt. When the condition of the site calls for it, our Syracuse Division can handle job site drying, soil stabilization, and full-depth reclamation to address problems below the pavement.
We also use reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and other recycling methods when they make sense for the job. Reusing existing materials can reduce the amount of new material needed and, in some cases, cut down on hauling and disposal while still giving the project the base and surface it needs.
Reusing Pavement Materials
Full-depth reclamation and cold in-place recycling give us ways to reuse pavement materials that are already on the site. With full-depth reclamation, existing asphalt and underlying materials are processed and reused as part of the rebuilt base. Cold in-place recycling allows existing asphalt to be processed and reused directly on site.
Keeping more of the existing material on the property can reduce hauling, disposal, and the amount of new material brought in. It can also make these methods a practical option for larger pavement rehabilitation projects.
Planning for Complex Paving Sites
Some commercial paving projects come with more moving parts than others. High-traffic intersections, industrial properties, and multi-level parking structures can involve tight access, heavy traffic, scheduling restrictions, and other site-specific challenges.
Our Syracuse team takes those details into account when planning the work. We look at how traffic needs to move through the property, where crews and equipment can work, and how paving can be phased around other activity on the site. That planning helps us choose an approach that fits both the pavement needs and the way the property operates.
Our Asphalt Paving Process in Syracuse
A good paving job starts before the asphalt goes down. Our Syracuse team looks at the condition of the site, how the property is used, and what needs to happen underneath the pavement before deciding how to move forward.
Job Site Soil Drying
When rain or poor soil conditions threaten your construction schedule, Ruston Paving offers job site soil drying services that make a difference. By using Portland cement or lime to treat over-saturated soil, we help stabilize the subgrade, reduce moisture content, and improve compaction — all critical for a safe, durable foundation.
Our soil stabilization team works quickly and efficiently, allowing your crews to get back on track with minimal delay. Whether you're building in high-moisture regions or facing weather-related setbacks, we can provide a customized drying solution for your job site.

Choosing the Right Approach for Your Syracuse Pavement
Not every worn parking lot needs to be completely replaced. The condition of the pavement, base, drainage, and surrounding site all help determine which approach makes sense.
Asphalt Paving Services for the Syracuse Area
Asphalt Milling and Resurfacing
In cases where asphalt has been neglected, more extensive work may be required. This could involve a complete removal of the existing asphalt pavement or a more straightforward resurfacing or overlay process. Our team assesses your specific needs to recommend the most effective solution.
Soil Stabilization and Full-Depth Reclamation
Our commitment to delivering long-lasting results extends to evaluating the strength of the subgrade for your new asphalt surface. Sometimes, enhancing the underlying materials is essential to establish a robust foundation that can effectively support the new pavement. We offer soil stabilization and full-depth reclamation services to ensure the stability of your project.
Excavation, Grading, Storm Drainage and Stone Base
When a new pavement section is needed, we provide a comprehensive, turnkey solution. This includes excavation, grading, and the installation of a robust stone base before topping it off with a fresh layer of high-quality asphalt pavement. We take care of every step of the process, ensuring your project is executed seamlessly.
Specialized Athletic and Recreational Surfaces
Although asphalt is mostly found in parking lots and roadways, we specialize in the repair and construction of less common athletic and recreational surfaces. Examples of these are walking trails, running tracks, tennis courts and pickleball courts.
Asphalt Pavement Repair and New Construction
For over 80 years, Ruston Paving has been providing excellent service to our customers. We specialize in both new asphalt pavement construction and asphalt pavement repairs for commercial and industrial projects.
Parking Lots, Roadways and Subdivisions
Asphalt pavement is mostly found on parking lots and roadways. Most of our work involves the construction and repair of these more common asphalt surfaces.
Commercial Properties We Pave Across the Syracuse Area
Our Syracuse crews work on all kinds of paved areas, from busy commercial parking lots and industrial sites to schools, apartment communities, and municipal properties.
We also take on more specialized work, including tennis courts, pickleball courts, running tracks, and paved trails. The site may look different from one project to the next, but the goal is the same: build pavement that works for the way the property is actually used.
Commercial Parking Lot Repair & Replacement
Parking Lot Repair
For commercial and industrial properties, timely parking lot repair can prevent small problems from becoming larger liabilities. Ruston Paving provides asphalt patching, crack sealing, and surface milling to correct isolated damage and restore safe, usable pavement.
Our crews plan around your operating hours to minimize interruption and keep your lot accessible.
Parking Lot Replacement
When asphalt damage is widespread or the subbase has failed, full parking lot replacement may be the most practical approach. Ruston Paving removes the existing pavement, inspects the base material, and rebuilds the lot to support long-term use.
We construct commercial parking lots that meet performance needs, traffic demands, and site-specific requirements.
