Our crews traveled to the Carolina coast to work at Sandpiper Bay Golf Plantation. The existing roadways throughout the plantation were showing signs of failure and it became necessary to upgrade the pavement section. TerraTech, the geotechnical firm working on the project, recommended Ruston Paving to Centex/Pulte Homes, the project's general contractor. We worked with all parties involved to come up with a design that would yield lasting results. Not only did we reclaim existing roadways and stabilize them with Portland cement but we also installed 1,200 feet of underdrain piping to rectify a drainage problem. We will soon be paving two lifts of hot mix asphalt on the reconstructed roadways once the subbase has fully cured.
In the picture above, a Wirtgen reclaimer is mixing the previously pulverized subbase with Portland cement. Our water truck is connected to the machine so as to supply water directly into the mixing chamber, ensuring optimum moisture.
