Excavation & Grading
A building cannot stand the test of time without a strong, sturdy foundation. A parking lot or roadway is no different. Unsuitable soil must first be removed or modified so as not to undermine the structural integrity of the subbase. The placement of crushed aggregate in pre-determined lifts will allow the proper compaction of the stone. The advantage of using crushed stone is that the material will in essence “lock together”. A precisely fine-graded and compacted stone base assures the asphalt layer will drain as designed and provide a durable wearing surface.
Grading is an essential component of the excavation process. We ensure that the surface is sloped appropriately to facilitate water runoff, preventing pooling and reducing the risk of erosion. Our skilled operators utilize advanced grading equipment to achieve precise elevations, which is critical for:
- Effective Drainage: Proper grading directs rainwater away from the asphalt surface, protecting the subbase from saturation and damage. In areas with excess moisture, job site drying can help prepare the site for paving.

Storm Water Management Services
Rain, snow, ice, freeze-thaw cycles can wreak havoc on your parking lot. Storm Water Drainage System

How long will new asphalt pavement last?
A well-built asphalt parking lot typically lasts 15 to 20 years. With regular maintenance, some can last 20 to 25 years. The pavement design, traffic, drainage, weather, and maintenance schedule will all affect how long the surface lasts.
How long does an asphalt paving project take?
The timeline depends on the size and layout of the area, the amount of preparation needed, and the weather. Smaller parking lot overlays can often be completed in a couple of days, while larger or more involved projects will take longer. For example, a 30,000-square-foot overlay may take about one day to prepare and one day to pave.
How long should traffic stay off new asphalt?
Vehicles should stay off the new surface for at least 24 hours, although more time is always better. Weather, pavement thickness, and heavy vehicle traffic may affect how soon the area can reopen. Asphalt continues to cure after it is opened, so minor scuff marks may appear during hot weather and usually fade over time.
Will rain affect an asphalt paving project?
Rain can delay or interrupt paving because moisture affects how the asphalt bonds and compacts. It can also cool the asphalt too quickly, making proper compaction more difficult. Our team monitors the weather and site conditions and adjusts the schedule when needed.
