Every year, hundreds of accidents and injuries occur from rollaway vehicles in which a motor vehicle, after the transmission has been locked into a parked position, is believed to have rolled either forward or backward by the transmission purposefully or inadvertently moving or slipping into another gear position. Operators experiencing roll-away and/or runaways have been pinned by their vehicle, fallen under the wheels of their vehicle while chasing it down the street, or have allowed their unattended vehicle to strike members of the community.
In an effort to eliminate this preventable incident, Ruston Paving has added mandatory wheel chocks be placed on all our unattended vehicles and trailers. This is just one of the many facets to our safety program that serves to our make our job sites safer and protect our employees and the general public.
