The Montessori Community School in Durham, NC, recently underwent a significant transformation, thanks to the dedicated efforts of our Durham division. The existing asphalt pavement had seen better days, marred by unsightly cracks and troublesome potholes that not only detracted from the school’s aesthetic appeal but also posed safety concerns for students and staff. Understanding the need for a comprehensive solution, our crews stepped in to restore the school’s parking lot and ensure a safe, functional space for the community.
To kick off the reconstruction project, Ruston Paving’s skilled crews utilized a milling machine to carefully remove the damaged asphalt layer. This method is not only efficient but also environmentally friendly, as the millings were taken back to the nearby asphalt plant for recycling. The reclaimed materials were incorporated into the production of new asphalt mixes, showcasing Ruston Paving’s commitment to sustainability. This approach not only reduces waste but also provides the opportunity to create high-quality asphalt using previously existing materials.
After the removal of the old surface, our team focused on stabilizing the subgrade by mixing Portland cement into the site’s subbase. This crucial step ensured a strong foundation for the new pavement. Once the improved material was compacted and graded to meet the project’s specifications, a fresh layer of asphalt was installed, providing a smooth and durable surface. The completed project not only enhances the functionality of the school’s parking lot but also contributes to a safer environment for the entire Montessori community. With the meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality by our Ruston Paving team, the school can now enjoy a revitalized space that meets the needs of its students and staff for years to come.
